LANGUAGE
Official language of the Bahamas is English. However, there are two different English language forms used in the Bahamas:
- Standard Bahamian
- Bahamian dialect with a structure that draws heavily on those of various African languages.
There are also some French Creole speakers among the Haitian immigrants.
ETHNIC GROUPS
The Bahamas ethnic groups consist of: Black 85%, White 12%, Asian and Hispanic 3%.
RELIGIONS
There are many different religions in the Bahamas with Protestant being the largest making up 67.7% (which includes Baptist, Anglican, Pentecostal, Church of God, and Methodist). Roman Catholic 13.5%, other Christian 15.2%, none or unspecified 2.9%, other 0.8%.
HOUSING
The majority of Bahamians live in small houses. But there are some large beautiful homes mostly located in Nassau and Freeport in the quiet exclusive residential districts.
OCCUPATIONS
Tourism employs 60% of the labor force, Banking employs 25%, and Manufacturing employs 10 %.
